FAQ / About Us
How do I measure my vent?
Just measure the size of the duct opening or cutout size, length and width. That’s the measurements we go by. The “Drop in” also termed “Self Rimming” vents have a 7/8″ lip all around to support the register, unless specified. Grate Styles have 1″ lip.
Baseboard Vents will need the duct opening size, and most cases also the overall size you may want in case you have to fit between baseboard molding, a painted area or a cabinet etc.
Toe kick vents need the opening (where the air flows) and an overall height to fit within your toekick area. Cabinet makers: Note we can also fit a complete toekick panel at 3/4″ thickness up to 20 feet in lengths.
The Laser Designs because they are so thin, only 1/4″ thickness so the laser cutter can cut through the wood without burning, we go by Overall size to both cover the duct opening and the wall or door panel. You can specify the solid border size surrounding the air flow size later.
Every once in a while someone will want a vent with some other requirement so please let us know. Just indicate all non-standard orders in writing so we will know exactly what you would like. Drawings are also fine. For example, if you want a vent to fit on the surface without “Dropping into the duct opening” or fitting within the duct opening area, just say that your vent is a “Surface Mount without a lip” with or without rounded front edges. This fits on the wall, sort of like a picture and does not nest in the duct opening at all. Here, we will need your duct opening size as well as an overall size.
What if my vent size is not listed?
Just contact us with your measurements. We’ll be happy to give you a quote on a custom built vent.
So far, we have made up to 100″ x 100″ and up to 28′ lengths, for all sorts of applications, such as Aquariums, Boat Hatches and Floor Grids, Out side Deck Vents, Soffit Covers, Foundation or Dryer exhaust Vents, Cabinet vents, Hotel Vents, Hotel heating system covers, wood Radiator Covers and so much more.
What if I order the wrong size?
We understand how hard it is to judge measurements sometimes! We want you to be satisfied so just send us the registers back and we’ll replace them with the right ones. It’s as easy as that!
How strong are your floor vents?
It’s natural to worry about the strength of a floor registers, particularly if it is going to be in a high traffic area. That’s why with the Grate Style, we make ours out of an interlocking grid of solid oak. We have introduced the most secure 5/4 thick hardwood Grate. You will not find a safer and stronger wood floor vent cover. We have made them to hold up in even Factory Floors where 3000 pound trolleys roll over the grate.
With Floor Louvered vents the grain is positioned and locked together for a superior strength. That way you’re guaranteed the strongest vent possible. If you need something stronger, just let us know more about your situation. We have made Grates for Furniture plants where metal wheeled trolleys over 2000 pounds go over the Grates.
How do I finish my vent?
All vents are sent unfinished unless you specify finishing. We also can get you a step by step instructions to let you know how to get just the right finish. If you still need help or just want someone to walk you through it, just give us a call.

How long after I make a payment will I receive my order?

Options
We have a lot of other ways to make your wood vent fit, perform, attach, fasten, or whatever.
Fastening: There are more than one way to fasten your wood vents to the Wall, Ceiling, Cabinetry, Drywall, Plaster, Masonry, Soffit, Gable, or other material. Typically (except for floor vents unless specified) we use Countersink Screw Holes. Sorry, we do not provide the screws. We gave up when some wanted Brass, White, Black, drywall, #6 x 3″ and so many ways to make it look.
We also can provide Quick Release Clips, Magnetic Clips as well if you do not want to see the screw head and the wood vent “Snaps” onto and off the surface. Sometimes people put a small Safe or hide a safe behind the vent cover for your private documents or valuables. For the Wood Vents and Air Returns which are 3/4″ thickness such as the ones at the Lower Wall between the Baseboard molding we can also provide Deep Countersink Screw Holes and Oak or Birch Plugs.
Other ways to attach your Louvered Wall or Ceiling wood vent to a vertical surface is for Cabinet panels or doors, you can slide you brad nailer between the louver, both left side and right and shoot the brad to the side. This way, you do not see the nail imprint. If you want to remove the wood vent, just pull on the louvers to bend the nail and pull out the wood vent. Clip off the nails and re-nail when you re-insert the wood vent into place.
Other ways to attach your wood vents are by Velcro, By Friction (if you specify, we can make the insert of the wood vent (the part of the wood vent which “nests” into the opening) a tight fit and you can have the wood vent fit into Masonry, some cabinet fittings, some plaster ducts in a tight way.
You can also use an adhesive like liquid nails, especially on doors or places where you are not going to accessing. Velcro is also used in many situations.
Dampers
If you want Dampers, that can open and close or shut off air flow, we stock all of the standard sizes and may be able to order other sizes. We stock dampers for 2 x 10, 2 x 12, 2 x 14″ sizes, also 4 x 10, 12 or 14″ and 6 x 10, 12 and 14″ sizes as well.
We deal mainly with Architects, Builders, and Heating Companies who do Not want dampers on wood vents as wood needs to be thicker than metal and you do not want to further hold back air flow with dampers. However, sometimes they are needed in kitchens, baths and bedrooms.
These are optional and not really mentioned on the site. Just let us know if you need dampers and we are happy to discuss this with you.
