First, How Can We Help?
Many of our customers have unique sizes, fits, wood types, etc. That’s okay, as the manufacture we can make MOST ANY size and help with customized pieces as well! Did your Flush Mount vent insert break for your pre-existing frame with another manufacturer? We can help replicate a replacement piece! If you need to replicate pieces for a historical project, we are happy to help!
We will ask you a series of inquiries so we can help guide you in what is best for your needs.
Some of these questions include:
♦ Where are You Installing the Vent?
Location of the Vent:
♦ Type of Wood Species?
We stock over 2 dozen different types of wood options to match to your existing wood. Sometimes we can special order specific woods like Tigerwood, Ponderossa Pine, Redwood, etc. For a list of our current wood types see our Wood Species Chart in our menu bar.
For Paintable Woods we carry Birch, Maple, Pine & Poplar. Birch is the Best as it is most resistant to temperature changes and humidity.
If you don’t know the wood type you are trying to match, just send us a photo which you can also attach in your quote request, and we can help suggest a best match.
**Remember it is important to try to match the wood species to your existing wood for both a grain and color match.** If you have Hickory floors you will want to continue with a Hickory wood vent.

♦ What is the Duct Opening / cut out size?
This tells us the size it must nest into for support and a secure fit, as well as the Air Flow Size for the grille of your vent piece.
♦ What is the Overall Size Allowance of your space?
→ FOR FLOORS:
For Standard Self-Rimming Overall sizes, you will want to make sure your vent has enough clearance for a 7/8″ lip/flange on each of the 4 sides. This means a 4 x 10″ Duct Opening Size, will have an Overall size of 5.75 x 11.75″ for the surface it rests proud on.
For Flush Mount with Frame a 4 x 10″ Duct Opening Size will have an Overall size including the framework of approximately 6.875 x 12.875.” Make sure you check your floor thickness too!
For a Trimline Flush Mount (without a framework) a 4 x 10″ Duct Opening Size will have an Overall size of 5 x 11.” You will want to check your floor thickness for this as well.
• FOR NON-FLOOR LOCATIONS:
For Standard Self-Rimming Overall sizes, you will want to make sure your vent has enough clearance for a 7/8″ lip/flange on each of the 4 sides. This means a 4 x 10″ Duct Opening Size, will have an Overall size of 5.75 x 11.75″ for the surface it rests proud on.
For Surface / Flush Mounts there will be a standard 1/2″ solid border and straight eges on all 4 sides. The 4 x 10″ Duct Opening Size will have an Overall Size 5 x 11.” You will need to tell us if you need any variation, especially for asymmetrical fit issues.
Asymmetrical Fitting Vent Needs For Obstructed Space Allowance Are Not A Problem!
If your locations requires an assymetrical fit this tells us here what you need
ex. 2” Left; 1/2” Right; 2” Top; 0” Bottom
♦ Type of Vent?
-Supply? Air Return? Access Panel? Other?
We will ask you these questions to make sure any options such as air flow, dampers, filter brackets and/or assembly package options can be added for your needs.
Keep in mind we use SOLID WOOD, which is much thicker than metal. For this reason many architects, designers and other professionals do not use dampers, or find them needed.
Customized Air Flow Needs?
If you need a specific air flow for your system, this is usually not a problem.
YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE YOUR HVAC TECH CONVERT YOUR CFM’S INTO FREE AIR AREA!
